Operations

 

The Operations Division, under the command of the Chief of Police, is the largest and most visible division within the department. This division includes: 

  • Uniformed Patrol
  • Special Operations 
  • Traffic Section 
  • Police Reserves 
  • Police Volunteers 

As the department’s primary resource allocation, the Operations Division is responsible for responding promptly to calls for service, proactively addressing community concerns, and ensuring public safety through high-visibility enforcement and engagement efforts. Officers assigned to this division are committed to protecting and serving the community with professionalism, integrity, and dedication. 


Patrol Operations

Patrol serves as the frontline safeguard for community safety and is the most visible component of the department. Sergeants oversee the division’s daily operations, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and officer support. 

Patrol officers are responsible for: 

  • Conducting proactive patrols to deter crime 
  • Responding promptly to calls for service 
  • Identifying and addressing emerging crime trends 
  • Enforcing traffic laws to promote roadway safety 
  • Assisting community members, including aiding stranded motorists 
  • Engaging in crime prevention efforts, such as community presentations 

Patrol officers play a critical role in building trust and fostering strong partnerships with the community through proactive policing and responsive service. 

Traffic Section: Safety & Enforcement 

The Sierra Madre Police Department investigates all reported traffic collisions within the City. Traffic safety is a shared responsibility, and our department is committed to ensuring safe roadways for all. 

We have a dedicated Traffic Officer who: 

  • Respond to and investigate traffic collisions 
  • Conducts and reviews traffic collision reports 
  • Addresses traffic-related complaints 

Additionally, Patrol Operations play a key role in traffic safety by: 

  • Enforcing traffic laws to reduce collisions 
  • Investigating traffic incidents 
  • Promoting public awareness through education and outreach 

 Our department collaborates with schools, businesses, and community groups to enhance traffic safety measures and promote responsible driving behaviors throughout the community.
