The Operations Division, under the command of the Chief of Police, is the largest and most visible division within the department. This division includes:
- Uniformed Patrol
- Special Operations
- Traffic Section
- Police Reserves

As the department’s primary resource allocation, the Operations Division is responsible for responding promptly to calls for service, proactively addressing community concerns, and ensuring public safety through high-visibility enforcement and engagement efforts. Patrol Operations
Patrol serves as the frontline safeguard for community safety and is the most visible component of the department. Sergeants oversee the division’s daily operations, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and officer support.
Patrol officers are responsible for:
- Conducting proactive patrols to deter crime
- Responding promptly to calls for service
- Identifying and addressing emerging crime trends
- Enforcing traffic laws to promote roadway safety
- Assisting community members, including aiding stranded motorists
- Engaging in crime prevention efforts, such as community presentations

Traffic Section: Safety & Enforcement
The Sierra Madre Police Department investigates all reported traffic collisions within the City. Traffic safety is a shared responsibility, and our department is committed to ensuring safe roadways for all.
We have a dedicated Traffic Officer who:
- Respond to and investigate traffic collisions
- Conducts and reviews traffic collision reports
- Addresses traffic-related complaints
